OPGW cables

OPGW cables is primarily utilized by the electrical utility business, placed within the secure top position of the conductor wherever it “shields” the all-important conductors from lightning whereas providing a telecommunications path for internal yet as third party communications. Optical Ground Wire could be a twin functioning cable, which means it serves 2 functions. it’s designed to switch ancient static / protect / earth wires on overhead transmission lines with the additional advantage of containing optical fibers which may be used for telecommunications functions.

AlumaCore Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)

Features:

  • Preferred option for easy handling and splicing
  • Thick-walled aluminum pipe provides excellent crush resistance
  • Hermetically sealed pipe protects optical fibers
  • Outer wire strands selected to optimize mechanical and electrical properties
  • Optical sub-unit provides exceptional mechanical and thermal protection for fibers
  • Dielectric color-coded optical sub-units available in fiber counts of 6, 8, 12, 18 and 24
  • Multiple sub-units combine to achieve fiber counts up to 144

Applications:

  • For use by electric utilities on transmission lines in lieu of traditional shield wire

CentraCore Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)

Features:

  • Fiber counts up to 96 in same diameter product
  • Small diameter, low weight reduces retrofit impact
  • Laser-welded, hermetically sealed stainless steel tubes provide mechanical and thermal protection for fibers
  • Thick-walled aluminum pipe provides crush resistance and boosts fault current rating
  • Outer wire strands selected to optimize mechanical and electrical properties
  • Fiber grouped in bundles of 12 for ease of splicing prep

HexaCore Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)

Features:

  • Fiber counts up to 432 or higher if needed
  • Laser-welded, hermetically sealed stainless steel tubes provide mechanical and thermal protection for optical fibers
  • High load, long span capability
  • Each stainless steel tube is uniquely identified for organization at splice locations
  • Stranded wires selected to optimize mechanical and electrical properties of cable
  • Anti-rotational devices usually not required for installation, depending on conditions
